Prolotherapy

Prolotherapy is also known as nonsurgical ligament and tendon reconstruction or regenerative injection therapy, and is a treatment for chronic pain. It was originally called musculoskeletal sclerotherapy.

PROLOTHERAPY IS HELPFUL FOR WHAT CONDITIONS?
The treatment is useful for many different types of musculoskeletal pain, including arthritis, back pain, knee pain, foot or ankle pain, neck pain, sports injuries, unresolved whiplash injuries, carpal tunnel syndrome, chronic tendonitis, partially torn tendons, ligaments and cartilage, degenerated or herniated discs, TMJ and sciatica.

WHAT IS PROLOTHERAPY?

At its heart, prolotherapy is a story of renewal — a way to awaken the body's own deep wisdom to heal and rebuild.

The word itself holds a clue: "Prolo" comes from proliferation — meaning growth, expansion, and creation. Through this therapy, we invite the body to grow strong, healthy ligament and tendon tissue exactly where it has weakened.

Ligaments are like the body's own elastic bridges, connecting bone to bone, holding the architecture of our joints steady. But because ligaments have only a modest blood supply, healing can be slow, incomplete, and painful when they are injured. Tendons — those sturdy cords that tether muscle to bone — can suffer the same fate.

Prolotherapy steps in as a gentle catalyst. A solution, most often dextrose (a simple sugar water), is injected precisely where the ligament or tendon meets the bone. This small act stirs a controlled, localized inflammation — not a damaging one, but a healing fire. Blood flow increases. Nutrients rush in. The body receives the nudge it needs to rebuild and strengthen what was once fragile.

Though modern prolotherapy uses careful injections rather than the ancient methods of Hippocrates — who used heated instruments to provoke healing in wounded soldiers — the heartbeat of the idea remains unchanged: awaken the body's own regenerative power. No harsh force. No artificial shortcuts. Just a wise reminder to the body that it knows how to heal, and sometimes, it only needs a little encouragement.

Prolotherapy is a hopeful conversation between medicine and nature — and your body is always ready to listen.
